Music and Pain Study
The Roy Pain Imaging Lab in the Department of Psychology at McGill University is recruiting participants for a study entitled: “Testing the Mediating Role of NaC Activity in Musically Induced Analgesia”. This study is investigating the impact of music on pain.
Participation will last 4 hours over three sessions (1.5hrs, 0.5hrs, 2hrs). In this study, participants will:
Submit 10 pieces of their favourite music
Complete self-report questionnaires
Participate in a 30 minute behavioral session where they will listen to music
Undergo sensory calibration procedures
Complete a one-hour MRI scan while listening to a series of musical excerpts and receiving painful thermal stimulations on their calf
To participate, you must be:
Between the ages of 18 and 40
Present no contraindication to magnetic resonance imaging
Be free of a history or current diagnosis of any psychiatric, neurological, cardiovascular or chronic pain conditions
Not use analgesics, anticonvulsants, narcotics and/or anxiolytics regularly (i.e. more than twice a week)
Participants will receive $80 for their participation!
